By Ancillotti
The VIA Technologies launched its new family of low power processors dual-core X2 series and VIA Nano, during the Embedded System Conference, USA. Available in 1.2 GHz and 1.6 GHz, the new Nano series 'X2 E' match, according to the company, dual-core architecture highly specialized and efficient energy consumption, with enhanced performance for most applications x86 embedded systems.
Created through a process of making 40 nm chips support multi-tasking and improved higher performance in multimedia content, while remaining under low power consumption. As might be expected, 'X2 E' are not intended for netbooks and tablets, but the televisions, set-top boxes, point of sale systems, and other business environments.
There is still present in the family VT virtualization technology, which allows legacy software that are used in virtual scenarios without impacting the performance, in addition to AES Security Engine for hardware-based encryption of data in real time, an interesting tool in protecting content and system security.
The company says the Nano X2 E-Series have pin compatibility with VIA Eden chip, Eden X2, C7 and VIA Nano E-Series, to simplify the upgrade process, and support systems 7 Windows Embedded Standard, Windows CE and Linux. VIA is already starting the sampling of new chips to its customers and expects that systems based on 'X2 E' appearing in the second half of this year.
