Announcing Windows Vista Service Life-Cycle Management
By Ancillotti
Service management best practices are often disconnected from the normal day-to-day activities performed by the IT staff. The principles of the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and the Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF) contain proven methods to enhance control, improve IT service quality, and reduce total cost of ownership for IT infrastructures. The challenge, however, is executing on principles that by design apply to a broad set of services and technologies.
Windows Vista Service Life-Cycle Management (WVSLM) takes service management best practices and makes them real for the IT professional. WVSLM applies the service management concepts to both IT service roles and the service life cycle itself – from envisioning to operating the service.
Templates, job aids, and examples throughout the service life-cycle make concepts easy to adopt and adapt. Explanations of service-related products, features, and Solution Accelerators link readers to technologies and further guidance for automating service workflows. This new take on MOF shows how the concepts of the MOF Team Model and Process Model can be applied to IT personas and made real using a service common to most organizations. The guidance is also designed to be easily replicated across additional IT services and ensure customers continue on the journey of Infrastructure Optimization.
