Google Chrome OS: Beware, Windows and OS X!

By

Google says that the system is lightweight and open source, giving the User super-fast access to the web. They argue that the system will be completely free of virus, by having a security architecture entirely new, and run a window system re-imagined on a Linux kernel that is compatible with both x86 and ARM processors. They were quick to mention that the project is something completely different from Android, but there will be some similarities in concept and functionality between the two platforms.

The discussion of specific Apps (and how they function) was vague, but Google has referred to an ecosystem of development that would be highly web-based applications and be compatible with Windows, Mac, and of course Linux. In summary, it seems that Google Chrome OS will excel in simplicity, speed, security and cloud computing.

The announcement of Google Chrome OS is a big step for a company that slowly and subtly made his way in the development of web apps. Google says that Chrome OS is being done for every type of machine, "the small netbooks to full desktop systems." What does this mean for Google? And more importantly, what this means for Microsoft and Apple?

I think Google has just signed his passes for a big slice of the computing market. I do not mean that you or I'll soon be using only the Chrome OS, but with the Internet becoming more and more accessible anywhere, our parents, grandparents and relatives probably will turn technophobes. Most of them are familiar with the Google brand and is frustrated by trying to learn the intricacies of current operating systems.

And even for those of us who consider themselves technologically advanced, as the experience of an operating system has been replaced by web apps from Google? We still have our main computers, but what will be running on our laptops or netbooks that are old in the room?

More and more, I see myself working almost exclusively with apps that exist entirely on the web, or with clients that connect to web services. The only applications that I use and unrelated to the cloud are system utilities, media players and publishers of image / video. And even these are already turning to the direction of the web. Cloud computing is taking us ever closer to the old era of mainframes. Google wants to be the only agent working behind the cameras. In saying that your system will be web-based apps and no platform defined, they are slow in attracting them to the web.

Still, Windows and OS X will always have a spacious home in the computing world, no doubt. Some programs are always in need of native architecture of these systems, and businessmen, programmers, graphic designers, video editors and others who know the nuances of computing could hardly work only in the cloud.

But the final hurdle here is Google's online storage easy and affordable. Will they go after the servers cloud Amazon S3? And perhaps most importantly, be able to offer the service for free? If they really allow us to expand our hard drives in the cloud, then yes. Chrome OS will be a force to be feared.

But we will even have to wait until 2010 for cool hands on this little beauty?

And as soon as the first versions appear, make available to download immediately here in Clic Gratis.
