Qualcomm updated and made clearer his plans, said yesterday, the first devices based on technology Mirasol . The company acknowledged that the formal launch is expected in early 2011, but said the first screens are already in mass production, and should be sent to the integrator at the end of this year. Initially there will be models of 5.7 inches, XGA resolution (1024x600 or 1024x768 pixels).
The first devices are also known as "converging", therefore serve as an e-reader, but also behave as a tablet. Smartphones are also in line for Qualcomm, but will only come later. Most details will be announced at CES in January, where each company will unveil their plans with their products.
Remember, the Mirasol is theoretically ideal for e-reader devices and tablets future due to their extremely low consumption and its ability to be fast enough to display videos and animations. Current models of this type of technology run at 15 frames per second, and are limited to a small range of colors, compared to LCDs. The technology has been in development for six years, is based on the method Interferometric Modulation (IMOD), and can display images in a wide range of lighting conditions, even under direct sunlight.
